After 7 years at the original 840 26th Ave Compound location, we decided to relocate. We started looking in May for a new space that checked all of our boxes. We knew we wanted to remain inner city, have a standalone building and have a fully fenced-in property to let all the kids run wild in the summer! Heat would be nice too and would be the start of our year-round programming.
We searched high and low, scouring all commercially listed locations in every quadrant of the city. Even phoning on non-listed buildings that looked abandoned or had their own “for rent” sign on them.
Nothing seemed to click until we stumbled upon an old warehouse late in August, just off 42nd and Blackfoot. Setback off the main road and overlooking Blackfoot Motorsports track, this was a unique space, in a unique location. Slated to be either leased to the right tenant or scheduled for demolition, we knew we had found our spot.
From the second we walked in, we knew it would be perfect. A 20,000 sq/ft cavernous warehouse, complete with multiple bays, tons of natural light and a view of the majestic Rocky Mountains, as well as the city’s downtown and Calgary Tower.
Formally owned by Frank Sisson (a Calgary business legend, Calgary Boosters Club 2010 Sportsperson of the Year and former owner of the Frank Sission Silver Dollar Casino) and recently purchased and managed by Atlas Properties (who have a strong love for winter sports and the mountains) the stars aligned and we had lightening in a bottle.
Moving into a new space was no small task. We took possession October 1st, 2023 and in three short but very hard-working months, we moved out of the old location and got everything set up in the new spot.
Complete with a Street Section with a “street league” feel, a massive mini bowl, flat ground courts section, gymnasium wooden floor (made from repurposed bowling alley lanes), and a totally separate beginner/birthday rental area complete with a 2ft micro mini.. THIS SPACE HAS IT ALL.
As we open in January 2024, we look forward to keeping the snow/skate community alive, growing and stoked for many years to come!
